Lincoln Family Medical Group uses the LEARN Program for weight management. LEARN is a medically researched, national program developed by Kelly Brownell, Ph.D., Director of the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders at Yale University. It is medically supervised at Lincoln Family Medical Group by Vera Friesen, R.N., Certified Lifestyle Counselor in Weight Management. LEARN is an acronym for Lifestyle, Exercise, Attitudes, Relationships, and Nutrition.

This program has proven itself to be more successful than the usual diet plans or even diet and exercise plans because of the multi-faceted approach. The program involves "homework" assignments from the manual and weekly accountability appointments to problem solve and facilitate behavioral changes. Long-term follow-up  needs are assessed individually. We believe this aggressive approach to weight loss greatly increases the probability of long-term success.

This program is for the person who is willing to make a serious commitment to focus on obtaining a healthier lifestyle. Besides the daily personal work, it also means a time commitment of weekly appointments at the office. Because the program is highly individualized to each client's needs, the cost of the program and the number of appointments varies.

Vera Friesen also addresses other issues related to changing a person's lifestyle for improved health, such as high cholesterol and diabetes.
